“2024 International Forest Art Path - “Art Nature Water”

Focusing on breathing is equivalent to focusing on water, and water is the process of flow, change, and impermanence.

There is a close and important relationship between forests and water. This relationship not only has a profound impact on natural ecosystems, but also plays a key role in human society and economy. Climate change is causing global temperatures to rise, which is putting severe pressure on forest vegetation. It causes extreme weather events such as forest fires and typhoons, and even affects the average distribution of rainfall. Moreover, extreme changes in water resources have a profound impact on the composition and ecological balance of forest tree species, threatening the stability of the forest ecosystem.

Only when there is water can there be trees, and where there are trees, there can be forests. Forests are the lungs of the earth, an important part and precious resource of the terrestrial ecosystem, and provide fresh air to living things. The entire forest ecosystem is a living organism, breathing all the time. In this forest, the fall of many large trees created many hollows and mounds. The way the mounds and fallen trees are covered with moss is like a natural water-retaining sponge protecting the woodland.

Light, sound, and air flow are all transmitted in the form of ripples. "Water" often refers to the way energy flows in Chinese philosophy. In the exhibition with the theme of "water", I titled my work "Breathing Tree". The work is centered on a tree. I collected branches from the forest and arranged the collected branches around the tree to create a ripple shape. The structure winding around the tree in the center resembles water splashing or growing organically like vines. After the sculpture was completed, I transplanted the moss from the forest and planted it on the sculpture to express the original beauty of the forest and make it a media landscape for humans in the forest to express and understand its changes.
