Title: Tide and NestArtist: Lee Kuei-Chih

The movement of the tides arises from the gravitational pull among the Earth, the Sun, and the Moon. This cosmic rhythm is not only a perpetual phenomenon of nature but also one that profoundly shapes humanity’s relationship with the ocean—affecting fisheries, navigation, culture, and even our emotions and philosophy of life.
The artwork Tide and Nest is situated within the intertidal zone of the Siangshan Wetland, weaving together the imagery of art, tidal motion, and the idea of home. Constructed from bamboo and oyster shells—materials rooted in the region’s local industry—it echoes a sustainable culture of coexistence between human life and wetland ecology. Across the landscape, the artist traces graceful, orbit-like arcs that rise gently to form an open, walkable passage, symbolizing the cyclical flow between humanity and nature.
The work is composed of twin lunar forms: the outer crescent mirrors the structure of local oyster racks, revealing the visible strength of nature; the inner moon serves as a vessel that holds cultural memory. When the wind blows, the clinking of oyster shells resonates with the rhythm of the waves, becoming an echo of dialogue between nature and culture. The meeting of these two moons transforms into a poetic home of the tides—a dwelling harmonized with the rhythm of the Earth.
As the tide recedes and the land reemerges, visitors can walk within it, feeling the breath of the intertidal zone and touching the traces of time and nature. Rising and falling with the tides, with the sun and moon in constant motion, Tide and Nest quietly witnesses the cycles of the universe and awakens a renewed sensitivity and reverence toward the natural world.
