“2019 Zhuangwei Sand Dunes Land art Festival_ Roam dunes.”
In the eastern part of Taiwan in 2019, following the "Wandering Bird 197-Longitudinal Valley Land Art Season" in Taitung, the Northeastern Corner of the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and the Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Management Office, the Yilan County Government, and the Zhuangwei Township Office co-sponsored the "Walking in the Dunes-2019 Zhuangwei Dunes Landscape Art Festival". Creators use local environmental materials, cultural resources, and technologies to develop artistic creation from the perspective of "craft" and "application".
The old place of Zhuang Wai was called Jialu Sha Po, and it was a place with sand dunes like waves. In the autumn of 2019, I was invited to participate in this art festival. When I first arrived, my first impression was the "Zhuangwei Sand Dune Tourism Service Park" designed by Huang Shengyuan Architect based on the unique sand dune landscape of Zhuangwei. Sand dunes are a unique natural landscape of Lanyang Plain, and the sandy soil is also beneficial to the growth of cantaloupe. Therefore, Lanyang Plain is known as the "Hometown of Cantaloupe". Therefore, I used local driftwood to create a natural sculpture that is as streamlined as a sand dune. After weaving the driftwood with each other, when the sunlight hits the work, it reflects a network-like shadow pattern on the land that resembles a cantaloupe. I named the work "Jialu Sand Wave". The work creates a natural light and shadow sculpture that penetrates the space both inside and outside in this sandy landscape. It is also a habitat space, inviting people to enter the spiritual field of this natural sculpture and feel the tranquility and infinity of nature.
