“2016信濃之國原始感覚藝術節-土地講故事,水的說書人”
2016 年,我於日本森林中進行駐地創作,本次創作主題為「土地講故事——水的說書人」。此主題使我聯想到戲劇,一種透過演出傳遞故事與情境的藝術形式;同時也呼應華人哲學中「以水喻道」的自然觀,透過水的流動、變化與包容,映照人的本性與生活中蘊含的生態智慧。我將此作品命名為《漣漪劇場》,結合「水」與「劇場」兩個概念,在一座水氣充盈、生態豐富的森林中,讓自然萬物成為表演者,持續上演著無聲卻不間斷的自然劇碼。
植物為了適應環境,發展出獨特的感知與傳遞訊息的能力,例如趨光生長、氣味傳遞,以及透過地下根系與菌根網絡,在植物之間交換訊息、提升整體的生存機率。我走入這片雪松森林,感受其神祕而流動的能量,彎曲的雪松枝條散落在鬆軟的林地上,如同承載訊息的生命媒介,在林間轉化為不同的能量形式。
我開始收集這些散落的雪松枝,以自然的構築方式將其組合,形塑出一座彷彿由土地湧現的水波雕塑,也像是一處匯聚森林訊號流動的集合體,同時成為動植物暫時棲息的場域。這座覆蓋著植物基因與自然記憶的空間,如同一座劇場,隨時上演著人與自然之間的神祕戲劇。
戲劇雖源於人類,但自然本身早已具備敘事的能力。《漣漪劇場》試圖以詩意的形式,表達我在森林中的身體感知與自然經驗,讓故事如水般隨時間流轉,而森林本身,正是那位靜默卻不斷述說的——水的說書人。

“SHINANO Primitive Sense Art Festival 2016_The land’s telling stories, the storyteller of the Water.”
In 2016, I undertook a residency in a forest in Japan under the theme “The Land Tells Stories — The Storyteller of Water.” This theme led me to think of theater as an art form in which stories and situations are performed. It also resonates with the philosophy found in Chinese thought, where water is used as a metaphor for the Dao—a way of understanding human nature and ecological wisdom through the dynamics of the natural universe. I titled this work "Ripple Drama", bringing together the concepts of water and theater. Within this moisture-rich and ecologically abundant forest, all living beings become performers, continuously enacting ever-changing natural dramas.
In order to adapt to environmental changes, plants have developed unique abilities to sense and transmit information through phototropic growth, chemical signals, underground root systems, and symbiotic mycorrhizal networks that allow them to communicate and enhance collective survival. As I entered this cedar forest, I felt its mysterious atmosphere and flowing energy. Curved cedar branches lay scattered across the soft forest floor, carrying traces of information and transforming into different forms of energy within the landscape.
I began collecting these fallen cedar branches and assembling them using natural construction methods, forming a sculptural structure that appears like a spring emerging from the earth. The work resembles a gathering of flowing natural signals within the forest, while also functioning as a temporary habitat for plants and animals. This space—imbued with plant genetics and natural memory—becomes a theater in itself, where a mysterious performance between humans and nature is constantly unfolding.
Although theater is a creation of human culture, nature has always possessed its own narrative power. Ripple Theater seeks to express my embodied experience of the forest through poetic form. Like water, stories continue to flow through time, and the forest itself becomes the silent yet enduring storyteller—the storyteller of water.
