"SHINANO Primitive Sense Art Festival 2015"

In 2015, I came to the countryside of Nagano Prefecture, Japan, to participate in an artist-in-residence program. What first interested me was the name of the art festival - "2015 SHINANO Primitive Sense Art Festival." It directly illustrates the connection between art and nature and returns to one's original feeling. The station is located next to Lake Kizaki in Omachi City, Nagano Prefecture. There are beautiful rice field scenes and cute little stations around the lake. In addition, it is also one of the famous producing areas of Koshihikari rice. The beautiful scenery around the lake is also a sacred place for many Japanese animation scenes. There are also local legends about dragons living in Kizaki Lake. When I arrived here, I rode a bicycle by the lake to experience the beautiful scenery and scenery, and also looked for a suitable location for creation. After circling the mirror-clear Lake Kizaki a few times, perhaps out of a desire for the source, or perhaps feeling the call of the mysterious atmosphere of the forest, I decided to enter the forest beside the lake to create.

This is a cedar forest located on the shore of Lake Kizaki in Omachi City, Nagano Prefecture. It has strong moisture and a very complete forest ecology. In addition to tree frogs, dragonflies, hornet wasps, and other small creatures, it is also a habitat for monkeys, snakes, kamoshika, and bears. The cool streams in the mountains flow into the lake along the rugged water paths. The pure water quality nourishes the creatures and products on this land, and is also the best nutrient for the famous Koshihikari rice. Listening to local residents describe how the moss near the mountain shrine emits light at night. The legendary story of a dragon turning into a human to protect this pure land makes this forest more mysterious. When the mist fills the forest in the morning and evening, it feels like walking into a psychedelic forest in a fairy tale.

The ocean accounts for 71% of the Earth's surface, 70% of the human body is water, and water plays a key role in the ecosystem. I felt the breath of water in the forest, and looked at the natural aura created by the water vapor flowing in the forest, which was like the cosmic aura showing deep insight. I collect bent branches that have fallen to the ground in the forest day after day, and use natural work methods of tenon and weaving to structure them into a natural sculpture that seems to extend endlessly into the forest. During the process, you will occasionally see warm sunlight penetrating the golden scenery in the forest, and occasionally encounter felt deer and monkeys passing quickly by the work. After a few days, perhaps the animals got used to my presence in the forest, and they appeared around my works more and more frequently. The monkey squatted on a stone in the distance and watched curiously as I weaved the work, while the felt deer played beside the work.

When the sculpture was completed, I covered it with moss and installed animal bones picked up from the forest on the work to blend it with the environment. In this forest with abundant moisture, moss grows very quickly and quickly forms a symbiosis with the sculpture. Its huge but hidden form is like an ancient ruin that has existed in the forest for a long time, telling the legend of dragons and long-lasting memories in the past, and it is also the summons and ritual of water.
