"2014 Gau-Feng Art Festival"

People, nature, and the environment are a community of life in the ecological cycle system. This time, I participated in the "Gaofeng Art Festival" project in Hsinchu City. The work is located in the "Hsinchu Municipal Gaofeng Elementary School," which is full of green on the hillside. There is an ecological pond that has been abandoned for a while under the campus, and there is also a dense bamboo forest.

During the on-site survey, the densely planted trees on the campus attracted my attention and made me full of doubts, because such a dense planting method is not suitable for the growth of trees. After further inquiries, I found out that many of the trees on the campus were not originally from this slope, but were transplanted from other places and planted here. Some of the trees were left over from the construction of landscape projects. However, planting without carefully considering the environment required by the tree species will harm the tree, and it will naturally not be able to adapt well to the new environment and survive.

So I came up with this project about transplantation. I chose a man-made natural rest area behind the campus as the location for the creation of the work. There is a lush tree and another dead tree, which happens to form a contrast between strong vitality and poor adaptability. I used bamboo near the campus ecology as the material, and connected the two trees with the image of water to form a flowing sculpture. I transplanted the grass from the local area and planted it on top of the sculpture, creating a floating land work that goes around the two trees. It is also a dialogue between the two trees in their different life histories.
