"Jara Island International Baggat Art Exhibition"

There is a Baggat art group in South Korea, which holds an outdoor art festival every year during the winter and invites artists to work there. In 2013, I was invited to a residency. This was my first experience and work in a foreign art residency. Artists came from different countries and places to the snow-covered island of Jara. Everyone wears thick warm clothing and works in a low temperature environment of about minus 20 degrees almost every day. The base camp on site also has a large heater for heating. In order to ensure the safety of personnel working in the snow, the organizer has a strict work schedule and plan. Artists work according to a daily schedule to complete their work.

The real relationship is in nature, and each different environment gives me different inspirations for creation. This time I created the work on the snow on Gala Island. I tried to connect with the subtle pulse of nature and establish a new balanced relationship with the land. When I was walking in a white snowfield wearing a thick coat, looking at the snow-covered mountain lines in the distance and the ice floes floating slowly on the water from time to time, I seemed to be able to feel the pulsation of nature, so I named this creation "Snow pulse".

For this work, I used many curved pieces of wood. After finding the center of balance, I stood it on the snowy riverside land, and then carefully placed the snow blocks on top. Under the blowing of the wind, the work began to sway slightly. In the cold weather, the work, together with the distant mountains and the slowly flowing ice floes on the water, formed another strange landscape, just like the whispers of nature talking to each other, and some seeds hidden in the snow are waiting for spring to fall to the ground and be reborn.
