Title: Redline at East Coast

Artist: Lee, Kuei-Chih

Materials: Red bricks from the seashore

Size: 900cm (L) x 50cm (W) x 30cm(H)

Location: Hualien County Beach, Taiwan

Year: 2010

Taiwan’s east coast has long been known for its vast and beautiful seascape. In earlier times, many people built homes along the shoreline, hoping to live close to the ocean and enjoy its open horizons, projecting their dreams onto the waves and the wind.

However, with the intensification of global warming, sea levels continue to rise year by year, and the ocean steadily advances inland, subtly reshaping the boundaries of the island. Along this still-beautiful coastline, traces of past dreams remain visible—quietly coexisting with ongoing environmental change, bearing witness to the intertwining of time, nature, and human aspiration.
